reduce food waste in restaurants using space technologies

The Challenge

Identifya human problem and find solutions using space technologies

Project background

This was a study project thataims to reduce food waste in restaurants as an initiative of UN sustainability golas for 2030.

Executive Summary

Fridigio is a smart fridge powered by space innovation. It is a product system that replaces traditional fridges used in industries like at restaurants and
fast food locations when placed side-by-side as current solutions are. Fridigio can also be scaled down with a single unit to be used in a residential
environment using the same technologies.
Using futuristic wayfinding and incorporating moving screens for accessibility, the Fridigio combines our app and on-product interface to deliver deep
insights to the users. Incorporating a futuristic composter to deal with waste as best as possible!
-Refrigeration unit
-Prep area
-Dry food storage
Composting unit
-Donation bin

This concept monitors refrigerated and fresh foods from input, use, and disposal. using space technologies like
-photocatalytic oxidation technology
-hyperspectral imaging
-RFID tags
-vacuum sealing

Problem Statement

Reducing food waste allows redistribution of food to those in hunger and thus helps
solving hunger problems in the country. Additionally, ensuring food is disposed in an
accurate process will be beneficial towards the environment..

Our Hypotheses
Restaurants need to predict food sales before ordering of food and Community members might be interested in receiving food surplus from restaurants.
Food disposal units can be commercialized to reduce waste.

Opportunities.

Extending the longevity of food can be done by either the food suppliers or
restaurants.

General Solutions
Produce a product to monitor and calculate food waste rate.
Produce a system to auto-match community members with restaurants which
give away food surplus.
Producing two systems that can monitor industrial and personal food waste.
